Composition

If you’re looking for excellent and unique new music, you’ve come to the right place. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Composition from Texas Christian University. I compose for all instruments commonly utilized in the Western art music tradition and I am always open to writing for new instruments even if I never have before. I compose music that ranges in length from under a minute to far beyond and that ranges in instrumentation from single solo works to large ensemble works.

Residency

When I visit performing groups, my goal is to be of service. If you’re performing one of my pieces, I can attend a rehearsal of the piece, provide insight into my musical decisions, make performance suggestions, lead Q&A sessions, and more. I can do this over Zoom or in person, and I can even drive to you if you live in Texas!

Conducting

Are you programming my music and interested in putting me on the podium? I am an experienced and engaging conductor who takes great joy in being a part of the performing process by conducting my works with ensembles. I work towards making the most of the rehearsal process and having mutually positive, meaningful interactions with musicians; time with me on the podium will never be time wasted.

Arranging

My goal when arranging is to balance two crucial considerations: 1.) accessibility and playability for the instruments being arranged for, and 2.) the capturing and maintaining of your compositional voice and of the work’s spirit. I have excellent aural skills, with an exceptionally strong grasp of of rhythm and pitch material, and I am vigilant in studying the details of your hard work in order to ensure that it shows in its new version.

Engraving

I am proficient in Sibelius. My engraving is clean, pleasant to the eye, and easy to read. I am detail-oriented and careful, but that does not slow me down from making consistent progress. I have a well-established, distinctive personal style, and the exact details of that style can be customized to suit your needs and wants.

Composition Lessons

I frequently say that composition, as a practice, is 50% theory and 50% instinct—and I can help you with both! My philosophy as a teacher is to help composers build the skills they need to express the most authentic and unfiltered version of themselves through their music. Whether you are just beginning your composition journey or experienced and looking for a new perspective, I am here to be of service to you and help you become the best composer you can be!
